Taste the Niagara Escarpment
The art and science of grape growing and wine making have been a part of the Niagara Region for many years. Only recently has the experience of Niagara Wine Trail USA begun to garner the reputation as one the most up-and-coming regions for world-class wine. The Western New York area’s climate and presence of all four seasons create an excellent environment with nutrient-rich soil, prime for growing unique varieties of grape. This unique microclimate has led Niagara Wine Country to produce world-class wines, earning top scores from wine critics and international wine competitions.
The Niagara Escarpment is the second warmest growing region in New York State. Lake Ontario acts as a heat sink by moving wind toward itself when the water is warmer than air, and away from the the lake when it’s cooler. This process protects the vines from being damaged by frost. The region produces exquisite traditional varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Riesling, in addition to delicious fruit wines. Prominent wine publications have recognized the region as producing the best Pinot Noir, Cabernet, Icewine and Syrah in New York State.
Newfane and Olcott Beach boast four unique wineries that hold wine tours, tastings, events and festivals all year-round. Picturesque farm vistas, the Niagara Escarpment and Lake Ontario are beautiful scenes experienced along the wine trail. Niagara Wine Trail USA is your ideal romantic getaway or vacation with friends.
